Auditions

WRITTEN & DIRECTED BY EATHAN BINGAMAN

AUDITIONS: February 27-28, 7pm-9pm

SHOWDATES: April 14-16 & 21-23

Prepare a 30 second-1 minute monologue and be ready to read from the script.

Have you ever wondered what lies behind the lyrics of your favorite songs? Well, set in a world - not too unlike our own - we find a group of piano pub patrons pondering what some people will do to escape to a better life, and what it truly takes to go against those just trying to stay in power. Full of colorful personalities which are loosely based on the works of BIlly Joel, The Beatles, and many, many more, this hilarious and heartfelt show guarantees to make you laugh, cry, and cheer as these lyrical personas fight for what they've always wanted: freedom. Join in on the action and find out what happens when the music stops but the lyrics live on.

CAST OF CHARACTERS

Rick - A young man who has no memory of who he is. An everyman. (18-40)

Herm - An old man, grumpy but lovable. Great at problem solving. Thinks he's smarter than everyone. (60-80)

John - A young man, quick with a joke and has deadpan humor. Might actually be smarter than everyone. (20-30)

Davey - A young man dressed in a Navy uniform. Acts dumber than he really is. Extremely kind and caring. A giant heart. (20-30)

Caroline - A young woman, wants to be a writer. She has a calming presence. Almost a social chameleon, at her most honest around Davey. (20-30)

Betty - A woman who works for the bar. Studies political science though she does have a short fuse for idiots. (20-40)

Walrus - A gender-fluid person who is the epitome of love and freedom. A child of the 60s. Uses they/them pronouns in this show (Can also play Tambourine Man). (20-40)

Manager/Father McKenzie - Manager of the pub, a conspiracy theorist. McKenzie is an Irish catholic priest, down to earth, a realist.

Host - Odd, inexperienced, and overly friendly - host of the Pub. Trusts people and isn't jaded by the world - yet. Any gender. Doesn't exactly "do" social cues. (Any age)

Paul/Cotton Eye Joe - Paul is a real estate novelist and an absolute jackass. Has a Brooklyn accent. Cotton Eye Joe is an evil leader, he's very funny but again - an absolute jackass. Is extremely clever, though not exactly smart. Has a southern drawl. (Any age)

Anthony/Eddie - Anthony's a young man, working at a grocery store, depressed yet motivated. Eddie is middle-aged but has the maturity of a 17 year old. He is kind but also kind of a goof. (18-30)

Debbie/Leroy Brown - Debbie is the mom of Caroline and Stacy. She's a terrible parent, stuck in the past.

Leroy is a buff-framed individual with a handkerchief around their face. (40-60)

Stacy/Captain Jack - Stacey is the older sister of Caroline. Obsessed with game.s Dark, depressed, dry humor. Captain Jack is a drug dealer - creepy, hides behind a hood. (20-30)
